This is a rare mint condition Blancpain Air Command 2285f. It is from the Trilogy Collection that revived the Fifty Fathoms line under Jean Claude Biver’s ownershop. Scope: It comes with the original box, which has damage on a couple of corners, as pictured. It also comes with a service receipt. I purchased this watch in September 2022 and immediately sent it to Blancpain for a full movement overhaul and waterproofing. The service cost $800 and I received the watch back in May 2023. Condition: The watch is in immaculate, almost unworn condition. There are very few hairline scratches on the case and bezel. The entire case and case back is perfectly mirror polished. If you’re familiar with Grand Seiko zaratsu polishing, it is of that level of finish. The case back has a few minor scratches on it, and is really the only part of the watch with noticeable scratches. I’ve installed a clear protective sticker on the case back to protect it from further scratches. The case back is quite cool, as having a flat plate being this perfectly polished makes it a big mirror. It is engraved with a low serial number of 961. The bracelet is also in immaculate condition. It appears to be unworn, with only some minor hairline scratches. The sapphire crystal has some signs of aging. Near the right-center of the crystal is a sun-spot in the AR coating. There is another sun spot near 1 o’clock. You can’t see them in from angles, but it’s noticeable. At some point, the crystal could be replaced. However, the crystal has no scratches or dents and is otherwise in excellent condition. What makes this watch special: I initially bought this watch because it represents a time where Blancpain was uncompromising in its attention to detail and finishing. The movement, which is unfortunately hidden, has black polished screw heads, hand laid anglage, perlage, and Geneva stripes. A vertical clutch, column wheel chronograph like this is the most expensive way to build a chronograph. It is how Patek and Rolex make their automatic chronographs. In fact, this movement was also used by Vacheron Constantin for a while in their Overseas chronographs and by AP for their royal oak chronos. The hands are beveled and mirror polished, instead of cheap flat hands. The lume is extraordinary. It equals the Seiko dive watches I’ve had and is easily better than the lume on a Rolex or typical Swiss watch. Even the hands for the sundials are all lumed, which is a common point of cost cutting for chronographs. Even the rehaute around the dial is perfectly mirror polished, so that you can see the reflection of the indices and dial markings. Lastly, the addition of a 120 click unidirectional timing bezel makes this both an aviator watch AND a diver with 200m water resistance. To have an automatic chronograph UNDER 13.5mm thick and 41mm diameter with >150m water resistance is super rare. To my knowledge, the only watches with a diver bezel and chronograph are massive (>42mm diameter and >14mm thick). This comes with the original x-71 bracelet with all original links. Asking $6,950 shipped. PayPal friends and family or Venmo accepted. Many references and successful sales here. Thanks!
