Up for sale is a rare Jaeger LeCoultre Geophysic Universal Time on a bracelet. Most of these came on a strap. Scope: Full set. Warranty card stamped by an AD, dated May 25, 2021. 6 years of factory warranty left. This line was discontinued in 2020, so I assume this took a while to sell and is one of the last made. Inner and outer boxes, booklet, and all bracelet links included. Description: There are two defining features of this watch: 1) the deadbeat seconds hand and the Worldtimer. The deadbeat seconds complication was highly desired before quartz watches existed. It allowed for the synchronization of exact seconds between watches. The Geophysic was intended as an engineers watch, so this fit the purpose of the watch. To achieve this requires an extra 60 components. It’s engineering for engineering’s sake and something a watch nerd would appreciate. The world time function is gorgeous. It’s the most expansive world map of any world time watch I’ve seen, uninterrupted by a date cutout. The names of the cities around the periphery all exactly line up with their physical locations on the map. The continents are executed in a brushed metallic sunburst pattern and relieved against the lacquered oceans. Countries are denoted in crisp lines. The faceted hands and indices create beautiful lightplay and a bit of bling. The red and white line running from GMT (London) with screws gives it an industrial/technical look that harkens to the origins of the Geophysic line as an engineer’s watch. The hour hand is independently adjustable in 1-hour increments. On the movement side, you get a nice view of the deadbeat seconds mechanism, and that unique yoke-style, free-sprung balance wheel. The rotor is solid 18k rose gold. You get typical high-end finishing with beveled movement plates, blued screws, hand laid geneva stripes, perlage, etc. Finally, the bracelet is surprisingly functional. Each side of the double trigger deployant clasp has 1.5mm of on-the-fly adjustment, similar to the EZ Link Rolex clasp. The center links are all individually beveled and polished on their sides, which is an expensive level of finishing, The bracelet is $1,6000 when purchased from JLC. This is a breathtaking piece of horology. Perfect for watch geeks who appreciate the subtle flex of a high-horology piece that “ticks like a cheap quartz”. Condition: Timekeeping is excellent. I am getting +1 seconds/day for the past week. Some light swirls and a couple of scratches on the bezel, but not much. Watch has been lightly worn. No damage on the crystal. Never polished.
