For sale is my Credor 8J81-6A30 dress watch.

Credor is a Japan Domestic Market (JDM) Seiko brand that operates in the same market tier as Grand Seiko, though its watches are designed to suit strictly Japanese rather than international design trends. This results in some Credor watches being quite gaudy, or the opposite, quite boring when looked at outside of Japanese style trends, but some, like this one, really fits a vintage elegance style that really works well.

The watch has a stainless steel case that measures 32mm without the crown and is barely 5mm thick. This is a classic mens dress watch size from the 1950s through 1970s (the original Patek Calatrava was 31mm and second world war A-11 army field watches were 32mm), which looks great paired with formal attire, but might be a bit too small when not framed by a dress shirt cuff. For reference, my (very hairy) wrist is 7.25”, and as the photos show this watch does not look too small unless worn with short sleeves. The watch also makes an excellent womens business casual watch, though it may be too masculine to pair with formal attire.

The 8J movement in this watch is the immediate predecessor of the current Grand Seiko 9F, and is rated for the same +/- ten seconds PER YEAR accuracy. It has seven jewels (current 9F has nine), is thermally compensated and serviceable. The watch has a new battery and is currently running at slightly faster than its rating at approximately +2 or +3 seconds per month. I have no doubt that a service would put it back within factory spec, but I haven’t bothered as +24 to +36 seconds per year is still far better than any other watch (quartz or otherwise) that I own, and absolutely incredible for a 25-year-old watch (inscription on back indicates 1998).

The watch comes on a Seiko-branded and nearly new black leather strap that had the ends shaved down a hair from 18mm to roughly 17.5mm, and it fits nicely in the 17mm lugs. While 17mm is an odd lug width, I had no trouble finding a Milanese mesh bracelet and also ordering a custom ostrich belly strap with quick release from The Strap Tailor. This watch was some sort of work anniversary gift as it indicates 25 years and the year 1998. The engraving was done lightly and is entirely in Japanese, reflecting 25 years work for Toshiba ending in 1998, hence my guess that the watch is 25-years-old, though it may have been purchased earlier .
