Although North Korea was founded in 1948, an anti-Japanese guerrilla army had already existed years earlier, established in 1932 by none other than Kim Il-Sung. Without this revolutionary army, the fight against the Japanese would have looked very different, and North Korea might not have existed in its current form today. Additionally, it is no secret that China and North Korea are loyal allies, not only economically but also culturally. To express respect and appreciation towards the Chinese, the Communist Party of China was tasked by the DPRK in 1991 to commission these pieces. Several Chinese watch factories produced this piece in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the North Korean army.
