Hello! Looking to sell this vintage Seiko Age of Discovery Perpetual Calendar. This is quite a rare piece, so these don’t pop up for sale really often. I’ve taken courage to copy other redditor’s description of the watch. Seiko released a number of "Age of Discovery" watches to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Americas, and this piece I think has a particularly "period" feel to it, with the stylized globe and the golden compass mode indicator. It has a 24 hour subdial and the mode subdial, and the hands double up as weekday, month and year indicators when in Calendar mode. The watch has one-off and daily alarms, each with their own distinctive chimes, and in Search mode it can tell you the weekday of any given date from 1400 to 2499. Useless, but fascinating. This is one of Seiko's so-called "Dancing Hands" watches, as the hands go crazy when you change modes. It is a true perpetual calendar - once it has been set up it will not need to be "nudged"...ever. It uses the 12 indices around the dial to indicate the month using the blue crescent, and the red crescent points to the weekdays across the top. On the outside we have the last two digits of the year, pointed to by the red "sine-wave" hand, and also the "hundreds" of years at the top, which are indicated by the second hand when you're setting the date. The bezel is designed to look like a ship's wheel, and the whole thing has a very nautical / steampunk vibe. It effectively has 8 hands! The watch is in a very good condition for its age. It’s been sitting on my watch stand as a thing that I admired more than I wore it. Basically, you don’t need to touch this watch at all once you’ve set it (which is really tricky btw). Runs fine, no issues whatsover - it’s quartz. Comes on a beige nubuck strap. Price is $700 USD shipped CONUS. Payment by Wise and PayPal. I am in Canada, canadian buyers welcome. No trades. Shoot me a PM and we can work this out. Timestamp https://imgur.com/a/PTQ9Dpi
