For sale today is an incredible conversion watch, also known as a "marriage watch". This means that the movement and dial originally came from a pocket watch, and were placed inside a wristwatch case. This is a beautiful and unique timepiece! Movement and dial made by Grand Jean, who were known for their elaborate and decorative dial designs in the 1800's. The watch is running very smoothly and keeping good time. Good amplitude on the balance wheel. Pics: https://imgur.com/a/vQcGvDq Timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/srvUs7Z 42mm stainless steel case with 22mm lugs, set on a brown two piece leather strap. Both the case and band are brand new, never worn, and in mint condition. The total watch thickness is about 10mm. A really nice size for an average man's wrist. Spectacular exhibition back to showcase the movement. The original watch was manufactured in Locle, Switzerland in the 1880's. Movement and dial by H. Grand Jean & Co. This is a high quality Swiss movement made from solid nickel. Approximately 140 years old! To me it's just amazing to see such an old movement that's still fucking away and functioning perfectly. It's this kind of quality engineering that got me into watches in the first place. The movement was cleaned and serviced in February of 2019. Still functioning perfectly. The crown winds the movement, except when the button is pushed, which switches it over to time changing. This conversion watch was made by my friend Lothar. He's an older German guy with incredible watchmaking skills, but zero internet skills. As a result, I have so far been the only person to offer his works for sale online. I have sold several of his pieces here on Reddit. See my post history for details. What a gorgeous and absolutely unique timepiece! Asking $685 USD OBO including shipping within North America. Great international rates available too.
