FS: 1966 Rolex 5513 Submariner Stardust Gilt Glossy Dial Custard Patina Box Papers
The Rolex features a brushed steel case, which is accented by a bidirectional divers bezel that is set with its original MK 2 “Long 5” fat font bezel insert. The Submariner is mounted on a period correct brushed steel 7206 Oyster bracelet that is stamped with a first quarter of 1967 production date on the clasp. The 7206 bracelet contains 10 full size links, and will comfortably fit a 7.10 inch wrist. The Rolex retains its original black “Star Dust” gilt / glossy dial with tritium hour markers and polished white gold tritium coated hands. The tritium hour markers and hands aged beautifully and acquired an even and vivid custard colored patina. The movement used in the 5513 is the caliber 1520 which is currently running and functioning with no apparent issues. The inside of the caseback is stamped with a third quarter of 1965 production date.
Condition:
The case has been preserved well and contains even lugs, which appear to retain some of their factory chamfers. The MK2 bezel insert has aged beautifully to a dark navy blue hue, while the tritium bezel pip has acquired a patina that is consistent with the dial and hands. The 7206 Oyster bracelet contais minimal stretch, and remains in approximately 85% plus condition.
The black dial gloss remains strong and mirror-like, but contains some tropical “Star Dust'' specs on the lacquer. In addition, there is some extremely faint spidering in the lacquer by the 12 o’clock hour marker, which has been pictured. Overall the Gilt dial has stood the test of time decently, and is a truly honest gilt dial, which has signs of age, but presents beautifully in the sunlight and in person. The acrylic crystal has also been preserved well, but contains some minor surface level wear.
Overall the 5513 is in very good vintage condition and is an honest example of a late gilt / gloss dial 5513, which is fresh to market, having been purchased from the original owner’s wife.
