Hello,

I am selling my rare gray Seiko King Quartz from January 1978:

Sober and dressy watch, typical of the 70's.
Model reserved for the Japanese market (JDM - Japan Domestic Market).
Nice matte gray dial, with applied logos and indexes.

It is equipped with the Seiko 4823A movement:

It can be seen in the Japanese version of the 1978 Seiko catalog (page 14):

Rare model on the second-hand market, especially in this color and in this state of conservation!

CONDITION:

The watch is in very good condition / very well preserved for its age (See Photos).
Note the inevitable, but light, marks of wear on the case (See Photos).
The glass has no scratches.

WORKING ORDER:

The original movement works very well (keeping time, changing the day and changing the date).
Crown intentionally pulled out (movement stopped) to take the photos.
New Renata 394 / SR936SW battery, changed in early January for the sale.

OTHER:

No trace of oxidation.
The watch, apart from its strap, is entirely original.
It is sold on a new black imitation leather strap, 18mm wide.
Single-crystal quartz (see logo applied at the bottom of the dial), which only equipped the high-end models of the time: Grand Quartz, King Quartz, Lord Quartz, Superior Quartz, etc.

The company was founded in 1881, when Kintarō Hattori opened a watch and jewelry shop called "K. Hattori" (服部時計店 Hattori Tokeiten?) in the Ginza area of Tokyo, Japan. Eleven years later, in 1892, he began to produce clocks under the name Seikosha (精工舎 Seikōsha?), meaning roughly "House of Exquisite Workmanship". According to Seiko's official company history, titled "A Journey In Time: The Remarkable Story of Seiko" (2003), Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng).

Seiko is perhaps best known for its wristwatches, all of which were at one time produced entirely in-house. This includes not only major items such as microgears, motors, hands, crystal oscillators, batteries, sensors, LCDs but also minor items such as the oils used in lubricating the watches and the luminous compounds used on the hands and the dials.
