For sale is this vintage Seiko "Type-II" (7123-7010), made in Japan in February of 1979. The Type-II series by Seiko was aimed at making a quartz series of quality that was more affordable than the QT/QR/QZ cal.38 and cal.48 series that preceded it despite most of the line being more expensive than the automatic offerings at the time. They were slimmer and more playful, often with exclusive colorways and dials. This model, reference number QGP091, is a shining example of Seiko's experimentation, exhibiting a stunning côtes de Genève style dial - a unique dial for a Seiko, that I haven't seen done before or since, especially in this deep blue that shimmers wonderfully in the light. The markers are sleek high-polish stick baton style of which centre is in white. The classic Seiko dauphine hands mimic the indices with a sharp high-polish and a white centre. Paired with the all-white seconds hand, they contrast nicely with the blue of the dial for legibility. The Seiko logo and single crystal quartz symbol are applied. The Daini lightning bolt symbol on the dial and case back indicates that it was designed and manufactured by the Daini factory in Japan during its fierce rivalry with the Suwa factory. The case has a very brutalist aesthetic with solid bevels and sharp lines between the high-polish and brushed surfaces. The case is in fantastic condition for a watch that is almost 50 years old.  The 7123 movement is not only a beautiful example of an early quartz movement but also is capable of displaying either Japanese Kanji or English days of the week (all in black except Saturday in blue and Sunday in red).
